About Us

The original Handy Stop store in Howland was purchased in June of 2019 by it’s third owner after operating for over two decades. The new owner quickly learned everything he could about the convenience store business and fell in love with it! Within the next year, he broke ground on doubling the store in size, adding a beer cave, a meat department, walk-in coolers and freezers and many more grocery items!

In January of 2023, he purchased what would be the second Handy Stop location in Lee, ME. Within a couple of months, meat, produce and groceries were introduced.

Knowing he wanted to grow this small, family business, he further pursued a third Handy Stop location in Dover-Foxcroft in January of 2024 and a second Howland location in April of 2024 that includes a Diner and Agency liquor store.

The business hopes to continue to grow and evolve to serve local Maine communities and give customers a convenient and affordable place to shop while creating a positive and fun work environment for their hard working staff.

Impressed with what they have for a small store. A lot of pre prepared food to 'grab and go' both hot and cold if you are in to that. Deli and fresh meat, produce, dairy, and other provisions. Egg rolls were good.

They have everything here. From fresh fruits, to local ice cream, to fresh made pizza. The steak egg and cheese breakfast sandwich is literally the best I've ever had. They also just opened another Handy Stop out in Lee, about 40 minutes north of here. The owners of handy stop have a really good business plan it seems because it's definitely thriving in these smaller communities! Keep up the good work guys!!

An elevated version of your typical hometown store. You can really see the effort the owner and staff put in to making this place be comfortable and comprehensive in it's selection. They could do a bit better on the hot food (and the prices!), but regardless; both prepared and packaged food is always at a higher standard than you'd expect. A newer addition to the store, is more grocery-type items. You can get full pork and beef roasts, steaks, prepared kebabs, and just about any meat product you'd like. This is an incredibly valued and welcomed addition to the store, as the nearest grocery store is about 20 minutes away. The prices on the meat aren't outrageous either, as one would expect. Between fully stocked spices, mixes, meats, deli, craft beer, and snacks, they save us a LOT of trips to Hannafords. Keep up the great work, guys!
